Roles of Capital Markets for Another Leap Forward Grand Ballroom, Conrad Seoul
  • Time 09:30~17:30
Korea’s economy is at a critical juncture. It is no exaggeration to say that whether the Korean economy cap take another leap or not largely depends on the roles of the capital markets. The capital markets are expected to assume various responsibilities, such as providing innovative capital for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, financing job growth, helping the public to accumulate retirement assets amid populating ageing, improving vulnerable corporate governance, etc. To mark its 20th anniversary of its establishment, Korea Capital Market Institute will host a conference titled “Roles of Capital Markets for Another Leap Forward”.
The conference will explore many important and intriguing issues related to the overall capital markets. First and foremost, it will look at whether the Korean capital markets have provided investors appropriate returns and a variety of products to meet investor demand. Without product diversity and reasonable returns for risk, it is hard to expect the capital markets to provide sufficient risk capital. It will also cover the impact of Korean financial firm CEOs’ short tenure on the competitiveness of financial intermediaries using empirical data. Certainly, competitive financial intermediaries are an important prerequisite to capital market development. Furthermore, in-depth discussion will take place about how to tackle unfair trade practices and how to improve corporate governance, both of which are indispensable to capital market confidence.
Last but least, KCMI will bring together the former Minister of Finance, the former FSC Chairman, and prominent scholars to organize a special discussion session that will take a retrospective look at Korea’s financial policy over the past two decades since the 1997 Asian financial crisis to finally come up with forward-looking policy directions for another 20 years ahead. We look forward to your attendance and participation in this grand event.
